ArgDiaP initiated the publication of the series of books which aims to popularise the contemporary argumentation theory in Poland.

K. Budzynska, M. Kacprzak, A. Sawicka, O. Yaskorska (2015) Dynamika dialogów w ujęciu formalnym (Dynamics of Dialogues: A Formal Approach), Wyd. IFiS PAN

The book is part of the trend of today’s research on the theory of argumentation and communication which is applied for example in AI systems. We study two important dialog systems — Lorenzen’s dialogical logic and Hamblin’s formal dialectics — and propose for them a single language, thereby offering some kind of metatheory. The first part of the book presents a reconstruction of these systems using Prakken’s dialog description language. Homogeneous formalism allows a detailed comparison of the two systems and an analysis of their strengths and weaknesses. In the second part, we introduce a system that allows the players to identify and eliminate formal fallacies.

M. Koszowy, K. Budzynska (2015) Strategie retoryczne, techniki komunikacyjno-poznawcze, błędy i sofizmaty (Rhetorical strategies, communication techniques and fallacies), Wyd. IFiS PAN

The aim of this book is to familiarise Polish readers with the study of the fallacies as one of the main research strands in the contemporary argumentation theory. The particular subject-matter of our inquiry are those communication and cognitive techniques that are employed to influence the course of the dialogue as well as the audience. The main aim has been accomplished in four steps. In Chapter 1, we formulate the main research problem. Chapter 2 discusses the history of the concept of the fallacy in the tradition of Aristotle, pragma-dialectics, C.L. Hamblin and the Polish logic. Those analyses constitute a preparatory step that allows us to discuss, in Chapter 3, three main types of criteria for correctness of communication and cognitive techniques: inferential, dialogical and rhetorical, as well as our proposal of the unifying account based on the Inference Anchoring Theory (IAT). In Chapter 4, we present the way in which this unifying approach might be applied in analysing two example types of arguments, namely argumentum ad hominem and argumentum ad verecundiam.
